Name: Elena Souto Company: Ooh La La – http://www.oohlalaa.com Type of business: Online lingerie company
When Elena Souto started her own business in a spare bedroom there was one business tool she knew would be fundamental to her success: fast, always-on internet connection.
“There was no question that when I launched Ooh La Laa I would use broadband,” says Elena. “The thought of sitting there for ages to upload images, send emails and constantly having my PC crash was a simple no no.”
“I am constantly changing images on my site, uploading and downloading, so it has increased the time I have available to do other things. I’m always speaking to suppliers and when images are sent I need to open them quickly and make decisions.”
Like any startup entrepreneur, Elena knew she couldn’t afford to miss calls and that it was important to display a professional image to suppliers and clients.
“I like the fact that my phone line isn’t clogged up so I can receive calls. When I’m speaking to people I can quickly access pages on the net and we can speak in real time, rather than having to wait for the pages to come up. I can have lots of applications open and move from one to the other efficiently.
Also emails are sent quickly so I can get on with other things rather than waiting for dial up. I’m professional and as time is tight I don’t have to worry about the internet crashing with big files.”
But unlike larger more established companies, for Elena the selection of BT broadband wasn’t just down to increasing speed and access.
“Broadband is value for money,” she explains. “You pay a fixed amount and then you know you can surf as much as you need to. I’m on the internet around 18 hours a day receiving emails etc, so a fixed price and using the net when I want to is very beneficial.
“If you want to be professional and efficient, you need broadband: it’s as simple as that,” concludes Elena.
